Chippewa Watershed Conservancy Fund

The Chippewa Watershed Conservancy is a nonprofit organization with the mission of preserving open space and wildlife in Isabella, Clare, Gratiot, Macomb, and Mecosta counties. Currently they protect 3,456 areas in 26 easements and 14 preserves. These areas may be wetlands, have historic or scenic value, have critical endangered species present, or other things along those lines. The majority of what the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy does is helping families preserve these conservation values on their properties.

Chippewa RiverPeople grant conservation easements because they want to protect their property from unwanted development while retaining ownership of their land. This will assure that the property will be protected forever.

In addition to land acquisition and conservation easements, the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy also works to educate in regard to conservation, as a recreation resource and an economic driver. Field trips, bird walks, and butterfly walks help in this effort. The goal is to preserve what brought people here; for now, and for future generations. The Chippewa Watershed Conservancy Fund was founded in 1996 in support of their long term efforts.
