The Foster Lifson Undiscovered Artists Fund was established by Rachel Ann Foster for the purpose of increasing access to art classes for area children.  Foster, who named the Fund after her two children, believes that art fulfills a fundamental need for people and is a necessary part of daily life.  Art does many things for people, including helping people process emotion.  “If it doesn’t evoke emotion, it’s not ‘art’” said Foster.Foster recalls wishing she had some artistic talent for most of her life.  “But I couldn’t draw, paint, or sculpt.”  Well into middle age, she discovered she could create something pleasing (“But I’m not sure I  classify it as art!”) with a camera.  Some of her photographs are for sale at Art Reach in Mt. Pleasant.  A significant portion of the proceeds from the photographs will go to the Undiscovered Artists Fund.Foster said she doesn’t care if the children who will eventually benefit from art classes have talent or not.  “That’s not the point.  The point is to bring a bit more pleasure and beauty into children’s lives.”
