George Rouman spent 45 years as a clinician and administrator in the field of mental health, the last 40 as the Executive Director of Community Mental Health for Central Michigan, a six county mental health authority headquartered in Mt. Pleasant. Upon his retirement his friends and colleagues created the George and Frances P. Rouman Mental Health Education Scholarship Fund. The Fund will benefit students who are enrolled in the Bachelor of Social Work Program at Central Michigan University or those accepted in a Master of Social Work program at a public university in the State of Michigan, and pursuing a career in the mental health field. George and Frances married in 1961 and moved to Mt. Pleasant in 1965. They have four children and seven grandchildren. Frances graduated from Eastern Michigan University with a degree in primary education. She is retired from the Mt. Pleasant Public Schools where she served as a media assistant. She keeps busy by doing volunteer work and is active in her church. George continues to remain active in his community. He continues a part-time association with the Mental Health Center, is a member of several agency boards, volunteers at the Soup Kitchen and is the secretary/treasurer of the Mt. Pleasant Kiwanis Club. |
