Isabella County Nonprofit Service Center Fund (William and Janet Strickler Nonprofit Center)
A project fund has been established at the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation to collect funds to purchase the property at 1114 West High Street in Mt. Pleasant at a cost of $950,000. This facility is the correct size, is in superb condition, needs minimal modification, has no zoning issues, and is located two buildings away from the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen.
The Center has been occupied since September 2017 under a lease-to-purchase agreement. The United Way of Gratiot and Isabella Counties has assumed responsibility for the maintenance of the facility and the general day-to-day management. This arrangement affords a broad base of ongoing, stable support for both the facility and the nonprofit service center model while ensuring the tenant agencies stay independent.
The Center offers quality space in an affordable facility, bringing increased efficiencies for those organizations involved. The Center also brings significant improvement of services to our guests.
For the first time, many key organizations are under one roof. They offer day shelter services, groceries, home supplies, clothing, and help with employment.
Most importantly, our goal is to reduce poverty in Isabella County. With a permanent, shared facility secured, partner organizations will be able to coordinate development and implementation of services to equip individuals with skills to find and successfully maintain employment. This may only apply to a fraction of our guests, but every individual lifted out of poverty or prevented from falling into poverty improves our community culturally, financially, and socially.
