Emergency Assistance Fund for College Students

In September 2023, Eileen Jennings established the Emergency Assistance Fund for College Students. As a member of the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation’s Scholarship Committee, she saw the need to enhance the impact of scholarships. Conversations with Mid Michigan College and Central Michigan University revealed the urgent need for help for students facing unforeseen crises such as car breakdowns, personal or family illnesses, or childcare issues. The idea to create an emergency fund for college students at MPACF emerged, and Eileen took the lead and established it.

Dedicated to addressing the effects of poverty, Eileen has a history of charitable service, from being a Vista Volunteer on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation to active involvement with Rotary, Zonta, and Christmas Outreach. She holds various roles at the Community Foundation, including Board of Trustees, Scholarship Committee, Women’s Initiative Grants Review Subcommittee, and Governance Committee.

Eileen's vision for the fund is twofold: firstly, as seed money for a larger fund, with hopes of garnering support for its growth. Secondly, she envisions MPACF establishing a collaborative relationship with Mid Michigan College and Central Michigan University to provide consistent funding, ensuring students can overcome unexpected financial crises and stay in school. Her ultimate aspiration is for the fund to expand its reach, offering financial assistance to students from Isabella County attending various colleges and universities.
