Richard and Adonna Kennedy Memorial Fund

Richard and Adonna Kennedy

Richard “Dick” and Adonna were born and raised in Mt. Pleasant and were very proud to call this community their home. Dick and Adonna’s family established the fund to honor their parents for all of the love and support they gave throughout their lives to their family, friends and community. This fund will benefit two local nonprofit organizations that were near and dear to their hearts; the Chippewa Watershed Conservancy (CWC) and the Humane Animal Treatment Society (HATS).

Adonna’s father built their family cottage in 1942 on Halls Lake. On a warm summer day, she and her family could always be found hiking the beautiful trails at the Halls Lake Natural Area.

In 2008, when Adonna heard that the CWC was interested in purchasing approximately 150 acres of natural area at Halls Lake, she immediately came forward to help with fundraising. The Halls Lake Natural Area became a preserve in 2014 and Adonna was so proud knowing her efforts helped to make that happen.

“Mom didn’t have a lot, but if she heard that HATS or the CWC needed something, she was right there writing a check. She was so generous that way,” said Kathy Johns, daughter of Dick and Adonna.

Dick and Adonna loved animals and always welcomed an animal in need into their home. Their beloved dog Max was a stray and Max’s picture was engraved onto their gravestone. Shortly after Dick passed away in 2004, Adonna went to the shelter and adopted her precious dog Dolly, who is a Chihuahua mix.

The Richard and Adonna Kennedy Memorial Fund is a gift that will support these two organizations forever.
