Jerry Pickler Family Fund
Supporting hard-working, self-motivated kids
The Jerry Pickler Family Fund was founded by Peggy Pickler and their daughter, Jasmine, to honor a life rooted in hard work. While Peggy and Jasmine’s names are recognized throughout Mt. Pleasant as State Farm agents and community volunteers, Jerry quietly planted his legacy in a different — but equally impactful — way.
At just 15 years old, Jerry set out on his own. He found a better life working on a farm, waking early and going to bed late, completing chores alongside attending school. That early passion for farm work carried him to Michigan State University, where he earned a degree in agriculture. Jerry was a hard worker not only as a student and member of his Ag fraternity, he also paid his way by pumping gas, working construction, and laboring on farms during summers.
Jerry graduated during the Vietnam era and served his country as a pilot in the United States Air Force from 1971 to 1975. Following his service, he joined the farm lending program, now known as Greenstone Farm Credit, where he dedicated his career to helping agricultural producers succeed through farm-lending roles.
Outside of his profession, Jerry found satisfaction in helping young people. Through his experience raising sheep, he developed a deep appreciation for youth involved in agriculture, especially those participating in local fairs. He was encouraging and supportive of kids, particularly those facing challenges or needing someone to believe in them. Jerry also served as treasurer for the Morey Charter School, recognizing that there are multiple ways to learn and paths to success. Quietly, he went about making other kids’ paths a bit easier than his own.
Jerry and Peggy recognized that through education and hard work, they created a safe and supportive environment for their children. But kids like Jerry, who had to find their own way and supporters to achieve their dreams, are still out there. This realization inspired the creation of the fund:
Through the Jerry Pickler Family Fund, Jerry’s legacy continues — supporting students who may face unexpected bills or roadblocks on their path to success.
The purpose of this fund is to support Mt. Pleasant Public Schools students with demonstrated financial need in accessing driver’s education and, if driver’s education is not available, other education-related costs as determined by the school and approved by the Community Foundation.
