Laura Clemons Salisbury Scholarship fund

Established by her daughter, Katy Salisbury Christensen, this fund recognizes Laura Clemons for her many years of teaching elementary school in the Shepherd School System.

Laura got her teaching certification from the Central Michigan Normal School nearly 100 years ago.  She taught for many years in the Shepherd Elementary School. When she began her career, the region was organized into rural schools much like the one room schoolhouses of yesterday.

Laura’s husband was a farmer, and they were the parents of 6 children (5 boys and 1 girl) who all graduated from the Shepherd Schools. Laura passed away in 2000 at the age of 93.

Katy is establishing this scholarship in her mother’s name to provide funding for graduates of Shepherd High School who want to attend or are currently attending Central Michigan University to pursue a degree in teacher education. Students should demonstrate financial need.
